If your world is filled with the latest technology, hot satellite internet deals and non-stop gaming then chances are good that you have placed a first-person shooter or too. For the uninitiated, a first-person shooter or FPS is a game where you are literally experiencing the action through the eyes of your character – you are the character.

People love these types of games for a number of reasons, but the biggest one of all tends to be the level of immersion involved. I’ve created a short list of 3 first-person shooters that demonstrate this immersion.

1. Condemned: Criminal Origins – Aside from a few cut scenes that take you out of the action, much of the game is in first-person as you stalk abandoned warehouses.

2. Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie – Most FPS games have indicators for health and ammo. This game has none of those, requiring you to take note of things like blurry vision, to indicate low health, and frequently checking your ammo clip to see how many shots you have left.

3. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth – Sanity plays almost as important a role as health, but you have no way of knowing your character’s level of sanity until the vision starts to blur and warp.

These are all examples of first-person games that immerse you in the gameplay through sheer subtlety of information, and if you are looking for an innovative experience you might consider looking these up.

It is difficult to say which game is completely the best, as everyone has their own opinion on the subject. However, it is possible to narrow the listing down to several of the best and most influential.

Doom

Any list of best shooter games has to start with Doom. This game basically invented the genre, and made walking around, shooting different monsters desirable.

Dark Forces

This game built on the popularity of Doom, and merged it with the Star Wars franchise. The game had multiple spin offs, and several books about the main character of the game. It is still one of the most popular Star Wars games of all time.

Golden Eye

This game reinvented the first person shooter for the Nintendo 64. Many may consider it the best shooter ever, as it introduced most gamers to the modern era of shooters.

Medal of Honor

This was the first real game to drop players into the middle of WWII battles. There have been countless sequels to this popular video game.

Call of Duty

This game for a long time was second to MoH as top shooting games, but recently, it has claimed the top current spot with its listing of Modern Warfare games.

There are many game systems out there, and they all have a huge amount of first person shooter games. The first person shooter games are very popular because you control the character in first person, and you compete with others in a variety of matches.

First of all, all the game systems have all the popular games. If there is a very popular game, it is sure to be on all the major consoles because the company wants to make money from it. With this said, worrying about exclusive titles for certain games is not going to be an issue at all.

The next and biggest factor in the best first shooter experience is multiplayer. Interacting with other people, adding friends, and talking in your headset with other people is probably the best and most exciting part of first person shooter games. For this reason, you do not want to look at a specific console’s tech specs when you want the best fps experience. You want to find the console with the most amount of active players with an active community in which a lot of people have microphones. This way, you are sure to get the best first person shooter experience!

Connections problems are not exciting. It is very frustrating to run into a connection problem when you are in the middle of something, and even more frustrating if you were doing an important task. It is normal to be frustrated, so the best thing to do is calm down and try to solve the problem.

The first thing you want to do is check if all the cables are plugged in. Did you accidentally pull a cable or disconnect the router? This may sound stupid, but it is a problem that occurs often.

The next thing you want to do if none of the following happened is to reset both the router and the modem. Go ahead and turn both of the devices off, and turn the modem on first. Wait a few minutes, and then turn the router on.

If this still does not work, you want to try connecting your LAN cable to the router or modem if you have not already done so. If the problem still persists, the problem is most likely with the service provider.

If you find that it is suddenly not working or you have a new device, make sure you did not make any network changes on your computer or laptop. If none of these apply to you, I would highly recommend calling your service provider!

An excellent first-person shooter game can take you right into the action, leaving you wishing for more, while some of the worst first-person shooter games of all time will make you wish you had your money back.

The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific, a 2007 first-person shooter game available on most platforms at the time, should have least had historical accuracy going for it. Not only did the game contain factual errors, but the controls were abysmal and the whole game consisted of random missions strung together without a plot. Some missions didn’t even have clear goals, and if you moved too far away from the commanding officer at any point during the mission, it would end with no warning.

Daikatana, a pc game released in 2000 by Eidos Interactive, is simply painful to play. A first-person shooter with RPG elements, Daikatana was supposed to have an engaging story along with first-person shooter action. Instead, the game’s cheesy cinematic cut scenes didn’t develop the characters at all, and the action was buggy and confusing, with limited opportunities to save the game.

Corridor 7: Alien Invasion, was a 1994 first-person shooter pc game that was outdated before it even hit the shelves. Ignoring the technological leap forward first-person shooting games took courtesy of 1993′s Doom, Corridor 7 relied on an older game engine in its design, resulting in inferior graphics and game play.
