Why You Suck At First-Person Shooter Games

There was a time in the distant past when even I was getting smacked around by 13 year old’s with savant-like skills. However, times have changed. Fps’s are game genre’s with a much steeper learning curve than others. One of the ways “not to suck” is to put in the time. Simple enough isn’t it? Yes, I know, not exactly what you wanted to hear.

There are always other possibilities as well. Your connection for instance, whether it is your wireless modem, T.V.’s refresh rate, or your wireless controllers. I have spent many frustrated nights getting off the first shot just to see a kill cam of me dying. There’s nothing more frustrating than getting the shot off first and being punished for it due to a bad connection.

The first case is your wireless controller. Some would argue that you would never be able to tell the difference, I would argue every bit counts! Second is the T.V.’s refresh rate. Video game consoles typically have a refresh rate divisible by 60fps(frames per second). This means to optimize your setup you will need to have 60, 120 , or 240fps on your device(higher is better). Lastly, there is your internet connection speed. I can’t stress enough how important your connection is. I went from a basic high speed package to a deluxe one, and the difference is unbelievable. With a bad connection I’m always a fraction of a second too late. With my new connection however, I’m the guy that has you pulling out your hair! Don’t underestimate a lightning fast connection speed.

All of these methods will barely increase you capabilities alone, but together it will be noticeable. But lets not forget the most popular tactic for getting better. Yep, you guessed it, put in the time noob!
Practice as much as you can. The more you play fps’s the better your abilities will be with time.
